ACUPUNCTURE
Originating in China, acupuncture is a system of healing, which has been practiced for thousands of years. It is based on natural laws influencing the movement of energy in nature and in the body. This life force (known as “qi”) flows through the body in channels, like rivers flowing through the earth. Health is promoted when the qi in the body is robust and moving properly.
Physical and emotional challenges have the ability to disrupt the harmonious movement of chi that can result in illness and injury, which can show up as various symptoms and syndromes.
Acupuncture can be used to treat a myriad of symptoms, including migraines, pain, anxiety, depression, infertility, and insomnia.
Although acupuncture is extremely effective in eliminating symptoms, what stands out about this ancient healing technique is that it helps restore the patient’s health and balance so that those symptoms do not arise again or become different symptoms. Acupuncture is effective because it addresses the underlying reasons, or root causes, for a patient’s symptoms.
Acupuncturists are trained to not only establish an in depth, intrapersonal relationship with their patients, but to also address lifestyle changes (such as specific dietary recommendations, as well as exercise and wellness practices) to restore profound and staying balance. The combination of the acupuncture treatments and the lifestyle recommendations result in a powerfully, impactful system of medicine, which has been used for thousands of years with great success.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile, single-use needles into specific points on the body. The needles direct the qi, or vital energy, to flow freely throughout the body to promote natural healing and balance.
Acupuncture is the oldest continuously practiced medical system in the world, and is used by one third of the world’s population as a primary health care system. It is likely that more people have been treated by Chinese medicine throughout history than by any other formalized system of medicine.
Because of its relatively low cost and its noninvasive nature, acupuncture has become a highly popular form of complementary health care in the United States. The World Health Organization has endorsed acupuncture treatment for over 40 conditions, including stress, digestive disorders, depression, fertility, palliative care oncology, allergies, sleeping disorders, addictions, headaches and menstrual disorders.
Acupuncture is a safe, effective, chemical-free way to promote the body’s remarkable self-healing abilities.
Acupuncture is covered by most insurance plans and our acupuncturists are participating providers in most major insurance companies.
